As we once again enter the holiday season, here are a few tech themed gift ideas that we have come up with for 2024.

What do Cabbage patch dolls, Tamagotchi, and Furbys all have in common? Over the years they have all been the number one must have Christmas Toy. So while modern children will perhaps prefer a games console. When we saw Bitzee we instantly thought this too could be a must have Christmas gift.
For anyone who remembers the Tamagotchi craze in the 1990s, they will be familiar with the concept behind Bitzee’s Interactive Toy Digital Pets. However unlike the Tamagotchi craze. It’s easier to keep your Bitzee pet alive and perhaps more importantly there is a lot more replay value. With around 15 to 20 different pets to unlock. We particularly like the Bitzee Disney interactive Digital pet as it has the most pets to unlock.

The next suggestion we have on our list is the Steam Deck. Yes I know we recommended it last year. However unlike last year, we now have a variety of Steam Decks. With the original LCD model now cheaper, and a newer OLED model that has a better screen, faster wifi and a larger battery.
Then for those that have problems getting up in the morning. The new Amazon Echo Spot is a must have. Not only does it come in three colours of Black, Glacier White and Ocean Blue. Its petite size will make it an elegant feature on any bedside table. We bought one at full price and made a video on factory resetting it, but you can pick up a bargain at the Amazon Black Friday sales.

Still on the topic of music, we think the Ultimate Ears MINIROLL speakers will be a massive hit with teenagers. Particularly as the speakers are dust and waterproof, have a built in battery and can be linked together. Traits that make them perfect for providing music at the beach, or creating a little atmosphere at an unprompted party.
For concert goers or students who need quiet in order to study. A pair of Loop Switch Earplugs will be a welcome gift. With three adjustable modes to help reduce noise. These earplugs can help to protect your hearing while at concerts, traveling, or if you simply are sensitive to noise.

Recently we replaced our Arlo cameras with Eufy S230 SoloCam security cameras. While this was primarily for two reasons, in that we hated the Arlo subscription and the proprietary wifi hub it uses. As the Eufy S230 connects directly into a WiFi network, is easy to setup, can be charged using solar power, and produces a nice clear 2K video recording. It is a solid wireless camera at a very reasonable price. Just make sure you place your new cameras on a secondary wireless network.

As we are LEGO Star Wars fans. Hopefully Santa will leave us a Lego Star Wars Imperial Star Destroyer. Based on the Star Destroyer from A New Hope, but not to scale with the mini figures. It is still a good size and in our opinion makes a great display piece.

Finally, for anyone looking to get away from subscription based cloud storage. The Synology BeeStation may be worth a look. While not as feature rich as a full NAS. It is really easy to setup and will allow you to sync files and photographs between various devices. If you would like to know more look out for our new series on setting up a Synology BeeStation.
This months video releases
As we mentioned above, this month we will be starting a new series of videos on the Synology BeeStation. So we will start December by taking a look at completing a basic configuration. Something that should be enough to at least get you started with this really simple to use device.
