Last month was a tough time for the American tech industry, when a Chinese startup launched a free chatbot app. So when DeepAI: AI Chatbot & AI Assistant, became the most downloaded app on both the Google and iOS App Stores. It had a significant impact on the stock price of Nvidia, Broadcom, Microsoft, and Google.
It would appear that investors perceived DeekSeek’s new app as a warning shot to American tech companies. That China can develop technology at a fraction of the cost, while creating something that is arguably equal to, or better than its rivals.
So as someone still working out why I need AI. I suspect that AI might just be another white elephant like Virtual Reality, Bitcoin and Block Chain. Something that is initially regarded as the “next big thing”. But ultimately turning out to be hype used to pump corporate stock.
But what do you think?
Corsair K65 Plus wireless keyboard
A few years back, I read that mechanical keyboards are better for touch typing. So, while I only have pretty basic touch typing skills. I decided to upgrade my aging Logitech Craft keyboard to a low-profile mechanical Keychron K3 keyboard.
After a year of trying to use my Keychron keyboard, I realised I was still typing slower and making more mistakes than with my old Logitech keyboard. So, out of frustration at Christmas, I asked for a Corsair K65 plus wireless keyboard, which at the time was on special offer.
The Corsair K65 keyboard is a game-changer! I can type way faster and more accurately. Which I think is because the keys are a bit wider and the travel deeper while feeling smoother. I also wanted to mention that on my Apple Mac, the Keychron K3 wouldn’t connect to Bluetooth and often wouldn’t register specific key presses. Something that when trying to touch type is a problem, particularly when entering passwords.
The only thing I’m not a fan of with the K65 Plus, is that it does not have Apple Mac-specific keycaps. I mean, it shouldn’t be a big deal if I’m just touch typing, but I do occasionally glance down at the keyboard to make sure my fingers are in the right place. So seeing PC markings on the keys is a bit jarring.
To solve this issue, I just swapped the Mac keycaps on my KeyChron keyboard with the Windows keycaps on my Corsair keyboard. Sure, the key colours are different, but that doesn’t affect my typing at all!
This months video releases
Over the last couple of months we have been working with and testing the Synology BeeStation for Desktop app. This app is designed to work in conjunction with a BeeStation to sync and backup files and folders on either a Windows or macOS computer.
While the BeeStation for Desktop app is confusing to setup and lacks functions that other syncing tools have. As part of our Synology BeeStation series. we will be uploading a couple of videos relating to the BeeStation for Desktop app.
Since we recently received a request for a video, we’re also excited to share a new video tutorial on how to set up Synology Photos on a Synology NAS. This handy feature allows you to create two separate photo libraries, giving you the freedom to access your photos from different locations.
