The hidden secondary Start menu in Windows 11

Did you know that the Start button in Windows 11 has a secret menu? Many people don’t know about it, but it’s super handy! It has quick ways to access some of Windows’ most important functions and settings. For instance, if you need to open a Terminal Window or use Computer Management, why not try using the Start button’s secret menu?

Note: The secondary start menu has been around in previous versions of Windows too. But the options you’ll see will depend on the version of Windows you’re using.

  • From the Windows Desktop place your mouse point over the Start button
  • Right click the mouse button to display the secondary menu
  • Hold down the Windows key on your keyboard
  • Now press the X key
  • The secondary Window will open

Note: Just a heads up, if you’re not logged into an account with admin rights on the computer, disk management and Device Manager won’t work. So, if you want to use those tools, you’ll need to log in with an admin account.
