How to setup Google Nest WiFi | Part 5 | Re-purposing an old 1st Generation Google WIFI router

Notes: When initially configuring a Google Nest WiFi Point, place it close to your Nest WiFi router. This will help to ensure that the two devices can communicate with each other, while you setup your mesh network. 

• Open the Google Home app
• Select the New icon
• Under the Add to Home heading choose Set up new devices
• Below New Devices choose Set up new devices
• Choose Home

Notes: The Google Home app will now detect your 1st Gen Google WiFi point and prepare the Mesh network.

• The Nearby Devices panel will list your Google WiFi router.
• Select the Google WiFi router from the list and select Next.
• When prompted, enter the setup code to the Google WiFi router. You should find the setup code printed on the bottom of the Google WiFi router.
• The Google Home app is now connected to the Google WiFi router.
• You will now be prompted to Turn on WiFi router and point usage stats
• Next you will be prompted to Turn on Nest WIFi cloud services
• In the Where is this device panel choose the location where you would like to place the Google WiFi point.

Notes: While your Google WiFi router, is technically a router. When it is integrated into a Google Nest Mesh network, the Google WiFi router will revert to being an WiFi point.

• Devices in the mesh network are checked for updates.
• We are invited to Stay in the know about Google Hardware, features and services.
• When we are presented with a WiFi report we are ready to position our Nest WiFi point.
