How to transfer photos and videos from an iPhone to a Chromebook

In this video we demonstrate how you transfer photos and videos from your iPhone to a Google Chromebook. Something that is very handy if you prefer to manage your photos from your computer. However where this technique is particularly useful, is if you need to manually backup photographs and videos stored in your camera roll.

Note: You will need to use either an Apple Lightning or USB type C cable to connect your iPhone to your computer.

  • Connect one end of the Apple Lightning cable to your iPhone, and the other to your computer
  • ChromeOS will display a notification informing you that a removable device has been detected

Note: As you are not using a computer that is also signed into your Apple iCloud account. Your iPhone you will prompt you to “Allow this device to access photos and videos?“. To which you need to select Allow.

  • Within ChromeOS open Files
  • In the sidebar of Files you will find listed your iPhone
  • Select your Apple iPhone

Note: You will see a number of folders named by year and month. These folders will contain the videos or photos taken within a given time period.

  • Choose a folder from the list
  • You can now either copy and paste photos and videos to your computer, or delete them from your camera roll

Note: ChromeOS does not allow you to copy files to your desktop. So you will need to use Files and save them to My files in the Files application
