How to transfer photos and videos from your iPhones to macOS

In this video we demonstrate how you transfer photos and videos from your iPhone to macOS. Something that is very handy if you prefer to manage your photos from your computer. However where this technique is particularly useful, is if you need to manually backup photographs and videos stored in your camera roll.

Note: You will need to use either an Apple Lightning or USB type C cable to connect your iPhone to your computer.

  • Connect one end of the Apple Lightning cable to your iPhone, and the other to your computer
  • From within macOS open Spotlight Search
  • Within Spotlight Search type: Image Capture and press Enter on your Keyboard
  • Next, Unlock your iPhone

Note: If you are using a computer that is not also signed into your iCloud account. On your phone you will be prompted to; “Allow this device to access photos and videos?“. To which you need to select Allow.

  • Return to macOS
  • You will find that in Image Capture, your iPhone is no longer locked and you will see a list of the photos and videos stored on your phone.
  • You can now either copy and paste photos and videos to your computer, or delete them from your camera roll
