What’s in my tech toolkit | A TreeDix USB cable tester

One of the biggest issues we find people have with USB cables, is presuming that the cable can both charge and transfer data. However as most USB cables are not marked, it’s not easy to tell. So we like to keep in our tech toolkit a TreeDix TRX5-0816 USB cable tester.

While there are cheaper USB cable testers that will do a similar job. We prefer the TRX5’s easy to read LCD screen and the fact anyone can quickly workout if a USB cable is faulty or if it will do the job.

Note: USB cables have over the years become very confusing. So while some will charge and allow data transfer, others will only charge. Add to the mix that different USB standards can transfer both data and power at different speeds. It’s possible that if you charge a device with the wrong USB cable. You might actually damage that device. So having and using a USB cable tester could save you a lot of pain and money.
