Whats in my tech toolkit | various iFixit prying and opening tools

In order to open most modern electronic devices, you will need specialist tools that will help you to open something without damaging it. So in our tech tool kit we like to keep an array of prying and opening instruments.

Note: While the tools we show you in the video have been cobbled together from leftover tools that came in repair kits. iFixit offer a really cheap set of tools similar to those we use for prying open electronic devices.

  • Plastic Cards for removing air pockets on screen protectors, or using the thin edge to push or scrape away adhesive.
  • Suction cup with handle, useful for lifting or holding the glass cover for screens.
  • A Spudger is a general purpose tool for prying open the outer casing of a device, or moving and lifting ribbon cables.
  • A framework screwdriver and Spudger tool. At one end it has a magnetically attached T5/PH0 double sided bit. However at the other end we have a Spudger made from a more sturdy plastic than the iFixit Spudger.
  • An iFixit opening tool, which is a general purpose opening and prying tool made from a soft plastic.
  • Opening Picks are useful tools for opening any glued or clipped devices.
