In this video we demonstrate how you disable WiFi Power Save mode on a Google Chromebook. WiFi Power Save mode, is a setting designed to preserve the battery life of your Chromebook. Which is activated when your computer enters standby mode, or if you close the lid on your laptop.
When active, WiFi Power Save Mode on your Chromebook will disconnect from the internet. So any files you’re downloading will stop and won’t start again until you open your laptop or get out of power save mode.
Notes: The command that disables WiFi Power Save mode is not persistent. Which means that if we reboot our Chromebook WiFi Power Save Mode will automatically re-enable itself. So currently there is not a way to leave this power save feature permanently disabled.
- From the ChromeOS desktop, press and hold down the Control and Alt keys, then press t on the keyboard

- When the CROSH terminal windows opens type:

wifi_power_save disable
- When you press enter on the keyboard you will be notified that Power Save has been disabled.

Note: You will see confirmation that Power Save has been disabled. You can now download files knowing that if your computers enters Power Save mode it will not stop downloading your files.
- To re-enable Power Save type the following:

wifi_power_save enable
- When you press enter you will be notified that Power Save has been enabled

- Finally to close the terminal windows (CROSH) type the following:

exit
- When you press enter the the Terminal window will close

Note: The Terminal window in Chrome OS is called the CROSH. In ChromeOS, we can use the CROSH to run specific commands directly to our Chromebook’s operating system. But if you’re using a school or work Chromebook and can’t access the CROSH, your IT department might have turned this feature off.
