How to correctly fit thumb grips to the Nintendo Switch Joy-cons


This video is more a tip for anyone who is try to fit thumb grips on the Joycon for their Nintendo Switch. The reasons you might want to fit thumb grips, is that it can improve comfort and grip which in turn, might enhance your control and accuracy. Thumb grips will also protect the original thumb sticks from wear and tear while customise the look and feel of the controller.

Note: Fitting thumb grips to any controller is fiddly, but because the Nintendo Switch Joy Cons are smaller than other console controllers, correctly fitting thumb grips is more difficult.

  • Direct the thumb controller at an angle under the lip of the thumb grip.
  • Now slowly and gently rotate the thumb grip, feeding the thumb controller into the thumb grip lip.
  • If the rubber on the thumb grip is elastic enough you can try to pull the thumb grip over the stick of the controller.
  • Finish up by gently rotating the thumb grip around the head of the controller to make sure it’s secure.
