Sometimes, corrupt WiFi profiles can mess up your Windows connection. If you’re having trouble connecting, it’s a good idea to try deleting your WiFi profile. In this video, we’ll show you how to use the Windows Terminal to manage and clear your WiFi profiles.
We can easily manage the WiFi profiles for Windows in Settings – Network & Internet – WiFi. But we find it faster to work from within a terminal window. That way, we can also access more detailed WiFi diagnostic information. So, a terminal window becomes super useful when we’re troubleshooting.
Note: In Windows, WiFi profiles are used to store the details your computer will need in order to connect to the Internet. This information will include the network name (SSID), password and associated security information.
- Open a Terminal window, Start – Search – Terminal
Note: Just a heads up, the terms PowerShell and Windows Terminal are often used interchangeably, but they’re basically the same thing. Also, you don’t need to have administrator privileges to run this command.
- When the Terminal window opens type the following:
netsh wlan show profiles
- When you press Enter on your Keyboard, a list of the WiFi profiles installed on your computer will be displayed.
- To delete a single WiFi profile, type:
netsh wlan delete profile name="ProfileName"
- After pressing Enter on your keyboard, you will be informed that your profile has been deleted.
- In order to delete all WiFi profiles installed on your computer, type:
netsh wlan delete profile name=* I=*
- When you press Enter on your keyboard you will be informed that all WiFI profiles have been deleted
- Finally to gracefully close the Terminal Window type:
exit
- When you press Enter on your keyboard the Terminal window will close.
