How to disable autocorrect on an Apple iPhone

Autocorrect can be a lifesaver, but sometimes it gets a bit confused and changes words it shouldn’t. This can be a real pain when you’re typing important messages quickly. If you’d rather not have autocorrect messing with your words, this video will show you how to turn it off on your Apple iPhone.

  • From the Home Screen of your iPhone or iPad locate and select Settings
  • Now choose General and Keyboard
  • Within the Keyboards panel, locate Auto-Correction and toggle this option to off

Note: Just a heads up, if you turn off autocorrect, you might also need to turn off Predictive text. Predictive text is supposed to help you finish sentences, but it can still make mistakes. So, you’ll find the Predictive text option in the same place as the autocorrect option.

  • You can now return to the Home Screen and continue to use your messaging applications

Note: Hey, if you need to, you can also set up shortcuts for words or phrases. So, instead of typing out the whole word, you can type an abbreviation and have your iPhone or iPad replace it with a specific word. For instance, Apple suggests typing ‘GM’ and having your iPhone replace those letters with ‘Good Morning’. You can find the settings for shortcuts in Settings – General – Keyboard – Text Replacement.
