How to paste text without formatting on macOS


When you copy and paste in macOS, by default all pasted text will also include all formatting. However if the formatting from your source document is not the same as that of your main document. You can waste time having to adjust your documents formatting.

So in this video we show you two ways to paste text into a document on macOS. , without also having to paste any formatting.

  • Copy the text you want to paste.
  • Open the document you are working with.
  • Now postion the flashing insertion point where you want the text to be pasted.
  • From the menu bar select Edit – Paste and Match Style.
  • Your text will be pasted into your document without formatting.

Note: As using Paste and Match Style is a slow way to paste unformatted text. You might find it quicker to use shortcut keys.

  • Copy the text you want to paste.
  • Open the document you are working with.
  • Now position the flashing insertion point where you want the text to be pasted.
  • Press and hold down the Command, Option and Shift keys on your keyboard.
  • Now press V.
  • Unformatted text will be pasted into the document.

Note: You will find that as this is a system wide shortcut, the shortcut will work with all macOS applications.
