Synology BeeStation | restore previous versions of files to your Windows computer


If you’re a coder or someone who likes to work with different versions of files, versioning on a Synology BeeStation is a must-have. So in this video we take a look at how from your Windows computer you can access and restore previous versions of files stored on your BeeStation.

Note: Versioning is automatically applied to any file that has been synced to your Synology BeeStation. This is done by keeping a copy of a file each time you edit and save that file. The default limit for keeping past versions of a file is 8. However you can manually set your BeeStation to keep either 4, 8, 16 or 32 past versions of a file if needed.

  • Open the BeeStation Web Portal and sign in.
  • Load BeeFiles.
  • Using the Category sidebar, select the location where your file is stored.
  • Highlight the file you want to see there versions for.
  • Select the More icon, and from the menu choose Version history.
  • Alternatively right click your mouse button to display a quick menu. From the quick menu select Version history.
  • A panel will open displaying a list of all of the versions save to your BeeStation. Click on the more icon next to the version of the file you wish to restore.
  • You can now either Download, Restore or Copy to a version of your file.

Note: In order to access versions from your computer. You first need to download the BeeStation for Desktop app.

  • Open File Explorer on your computer.
  • Navigate to a synced folder or your BeeStations My Files.
  • Highlight the file you would like to see the versions to.
  • Press the right mouse button to display a quick menu.
  • From this menu choose Show more optionsBeeStationBrowse previous versions.
  • A panel will open displaying a list of all of the versions save to your BeeStation. Click on the download icon next to the file you wish to restore.
  • Sign into your BeeStation via the web portal.
  • Load BeeFiles.
  • Select your profile icon.
  • From the menu that appears choose Settings.
  • Under the heading Versioning, adjust the number of versions and how long they are retained for.
  • Close the panel to save the settings.
