Why do I have 2 BeeStation icons in MacOS finder?

So, you’ve set up your Synology BeeStation as a file server, and guess what? You now see two BeeStation icons in the sidebar of Finder on macOS. While it may surprise you to find out that this is a feature of the operating system. To make things less confusing, we are going to demonstrate how you can get rid of one of these icons.

Note: A second BeeStation icon seems to appear, if you use the Connect to Server command in order to open all of the network shares on your BeeStation. In fact, you should see that one BeeStation icon links to the MyFiles sync folder on your BeeStation. While the second simply displays the default network shares created on your BeeStation.

  • If Finder is open you first need to close it.
  • Now using the Finder menu locate and click on Go.
  • From the drop down menu choose Connect to Server…
  • In the Connect to Server panel locate the Action (…) icon.
  • Next to the Action icon is a drop down arrow.
  • Click on the drop down arrow.
  • From the quick menu choose Clear Recent Servers.
  • When prompted to confirm that you wish to clear the list of recent servers. Select OK.
  • Now when you return to Finder you will find that you no longer have two BeeStation icons under Locations in the sidebar.

Note: The BeeStation icon that links to MyFiles on your BeeStation. Was introduced when you installed the BeeFile for Desktop app. So in order to remove that icon, you will need to uninstall the app. However by uninstalling the app, you will also remove any syncing links you may have between your BeeStation and your computer.
