Synology BeeStation | perform a factory reset


There are a number of instances where you might find that you need to perform a factory reset on a Synology BeeStation. These may include making a mistake with its configuration. If its operating system has become corrupted. If you need to return your BeeStation for repair, or if you are looking to decommission it.

Note: When performing a factory reset on a BeeStation, all personal data will be deleted from its drive. However, as it is possible to recover deleted data from a mechanical hard drive. If you intend to throw way your BeeStation. We recommend that you remove its hard drive and either perform a secure wipe, or destroy the drive. Note: As a Synology Account is needed in order to configure a BeeStation. You will need to ensure that your BeeStation is connected to the internet when you perform a factory reset. Not only will this allow you to access System Settings, it will also de-register your Synology Account from your BeeStation.

  • With your BeeStation connected to your home network. Use a computer and load a web browser.
  • In the address bar type: 
https://portal.beestation.synology.com
  • Now sign into your BeeStation using your Synology account.
  • From within the BeeStations web portal locate and select the Option button.
  • Using the drop down menu choose System Settings.
  • Using the System Settings sidebar click on System.
  • Select Factory Reset .

Note: You will now be prompted to enter a code in order to confirm that you want to factory reset your BeeStation. A factory reset will remove all settings and any data from the device.

  • Click on Erase All Data

Note: A factory reset will take a considerable amount of time to complete. Which is mostly dependent on the amount of data you have stored on your BeeStations hard drive. So while your BeeStation is being reset do not remove it from its power source or attempt to power it down.

If you’re having trouble getting into the BeeStation portal, you can reset your BeeStation by pressing the reset switch. But here’s a heads up: you’ll need to make sure your BeeStation is connected to the internet. That way, it can disconnect itself from the Synology account it’s registered to. If your BeeStation has no internet connection, you’ll need to log into your Synology account and manually deregister your BeeStation.

  • When you release the reset switch the device will begin the process of factory resetting.
  • With the BeeStation powered up and connected the Internet.
  • Locate the reset switch on the back of your BeeStation.
  • Now using some sort of reset tool ie a bent paperclip.
  • Press and hold the reset switch for roughly 5 seconds or until the unit beeps.
